On S’ actual birthday, I let her have her first taste of some yummy sweetness – BIRTHDAY CAKE!  During the first year, the husband and I have tried to be pretty restrictive of her diet.  I made almost all of her baby food at home.  We did our best to do the all organic thing mot of the time.  We discussed and debated when we should give S her first salt and managed to hold out until about 10.5 months.  We didn’t let her have anything sweet until her first Thanksgiving, when we let her try pumpkin pie.  So cake was a pretty big deal for us.  I wasn’t sure how she would react, but she loved it!  At first she didn’t know what she was supposed to do, but she figured it out pretty quickly and then, it was game over.  Now I know why they call it cake smash!
